Subscription Plan & Checkout Flow
A subscription checkout journey focused on plan comparison, pricing clarity, add-on selection, confirmation states, and payment confidence.
View the interactive preview →The challenge
Subscription checkout is where good products lose people. The goal was to help a user compare plans, see exactly what they are paying for, and reach payment without that last-second hesitation that kills conversion.
Problem
When plan differences and total costs are unclear, users stall right before paying. Hidden add-ons and vague summaries make checkout feel like a risk rather than a decision.
Who it's for
- New subscribers choosing a plan
- Users upgrading or adding options
- Billing and growth teams
- Support teams handling refunds
Approach
Design a flow that makes the decision visible. Plans compare side by side, add-ons show their cost impact live, and a clear review step confirms exactly what the user is buying before payment.
Key features & screens
- Side-by-side plan comparison
- Transparent pricing breakdown
- Add-on selection with live totals
- Order review step
- Confirmation and receipt states
- Payment method clarity
- Trust and security cues
- Error and retry handling
System & UX decisions
- Show the total cost before the payment step.
- Make plan differences scannable, not buried.
- Confirm the selection before charging.
- Keep trust cues near the payment action.
Outcome
The flow improved decision clarity by making plan differences, costs, selected options, and next steps visible before payment.
